Lucknow: Creating holistic support systems and enabling environment for children with learning disabilities and neurological disorders is a primary requirement, said experts at a global online consultation event titled ‘Bright New World’. Experts from India, Slovenia, UAE and US stressed on the importance of early detection and intervention in such cases.
The participants included special needs educators, teachers, counsellors, parents and doctors. They agreed that awareness and support systems were needed not just for children but for other stakeholders too. The event, jointly organised by Institute for Career Studies (ICS) and International Centre for Promotion of Enterprises (ICPE), saw detailed discussions on creating inclusive and equitable world for children with learning disabilities and neurological disorders.
Keynote speaker Jo Chopra-McGowan, who has been working on disability services, rights and awareness for three decades, said, “The sooner a child’s family gets aware the better. India has made lot of progress in raising awareness.”
ICS founder-director Amrita Dass said, “Every career can be accessed by persons with disabilities provided we know what is required.”
Suzana Drabik, project manager, ICPE, Slovenia, shared her perspective as a mother of a child with special needs.
